Sustainable tourism on Dutch holiday fare
At the opening day of the holiday fair (Vakantiebeurs) in Utrecht in the Netherlands on Wednesday January 13, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen will start a special meeting ‘Sustainable Tourism put in practice’ organized by the ANVR, Travel Foundation.
At the opening day of the holiday fair (Vakantiebeurs) in Utrecht in the Netherlands on Wednesday January 13, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen will start a special meeting on Sustainable Tourism, organized by the ANVR, Travel Foundation.
The meeting; ‘Sustainable Tourism put in practice’ wants to inform travel agencies and tour operators on how to promote and support environmental and social friendly tourism.
The ANVR is the leading branch organization on Tourism in the Netherlands and an important partner in the IDH program on sustainable tourism. That program has taken the first steps to address sustainability issues in the sector through a recently developed certification system called Travelife.
The IDH program aims to speed up the implementation of Travelife standards at accommodations in 6 long haul destinations. In cooperation with 8 Dutch tour operators, covering 60% of the Dutch tour operating market. The ANVR and IDH will push for the improvement of the sustainability performance of accommodations at tourist destinations in Tanzania, Kenya, Turkey, Egypt, Thailand and Brazil.
