Borneo Initiative starts certifying 650.000 ha tropical forest in Indonesia
On January 6, 2010 Royal BAM Group, the largest construction company in the Netherlands and Bouwfonds Property Development, one of the leading property developers in Europe have signed a covenant to underline their financial support to The Borneo Initiative. Because of their financial contributions and the financial support of Adessium the Borneo Initiative can start certifying over 650.000 ha of tropical forest in Borneo.
With the help of major construction companies and property developers The Borneo Initiative wants to certify in de coming years at least 2,7 million of hectare of tropical rainforest in Borneo.
This will help to save this high value nature for future generations and will increase the livelihood of people living in and or dependent on the tropical rainforests of Borneo.
The Borneo Initiative is part of the IDH tropical timber program. With the financial commitment of BAM, Bouwfonds and earlier commitments of Addesium Fund, the Borneo Initiative can start this month with supporting certification in Indonesia.
